The 2023 Holiday Gift Program was bigger than ever, providing gift cards and other holiday items to 755 families and 1,906 children—more than 30% higher than 2022! Some of those who participated shared their thoughts about what this annual event means to them and their families.
“I don’t have enough words to convey how the IFCB has impacted our family, especially the Holiday Gifts program. There are so many feelings surrounding the holidays. We feel joy, anticipation, and excitement for sure, but there is also worry, guilt, shame, and hopelessness when you can’t quite make ends meet. The IFCB Holiday Gifts program lifted so much of that weight off of my heart this December. Like many kids in families of the working poor or lower middle class, my child has instinctively stopped asking for specific presents the way her peers do during the holidays. Because of your program, I was genuinely able to surprise her with something really unexpected under the tree this year, and seeing her delight was my gift too. Thank you for what you do.”
“As a single mom, it means a lot to be able to pick something for [my 9-year-old]. He doesn’t expect too much at Christmas…. I haven’t been working for a while. I’m on disability. It’s cool to be able to pick something that he’s asked Santa for.”
“Both of my boys couldn't believe how lucky they were getting what they wanted and have been waiting for several months for. My 8 year old said: ‘I'm so thankful, we are so lucky and we have all what we need.’ They continue to have fun with their holiday's toys and these gave us happy family time during the break. Thank you very much!!”
“Without this program, my teenager would have had very little in her stocking. The gift cards allowed me to buy ingredients for a really special Christmas Eve dinner, with all her favorite foods. What might look like a small amount of assistance to those with means actually translates into a HUGE boost for those who struggle, and the generosity is truly appreciated!”
