The past few months have been busy, wrapping up summer programs and preparing for fall. As we reflect on the first half of the year, we are appreciative of the generous support of our community. The Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank was founded on the principle that no one should go hungry or without necessities. As we continue to grow, we look to our community for support, and the community has showed up for our neighbors repeatedly.
At its core, the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank is more than just a place where individuals can receive food and services. It is a hub of community support and solidarity. This has been evident throughout the summer in the facilitation of our summer lunch program. Families accessing our services are greeted by enthusiastic staff and volunteers, and the atmosphere has been compared to a cross between a trip to the supermarket and a party. So far this summer, we have served an average of 272 families each Summer Lunch shopping day.
One of the most remarkable aspects of IFCB is our emphasis on community involvement. The food bank operates largely thanks to the dedication of volunteers who generously donate their time and energy. These volunteers, from all walks of life, help sort donations, stock shelves, and distribute goods. Their efforts not only keep the operation running smoothly but also strengthen the bonds between community members. In the first six months of the year, volunteers have donated over 11,000 hours of their time to our programs.
Local businesses and organizations also play a crucial role. Many participate in fundraising events, donation drives, and in-kind contributions. This collaboration between our organization and the broader community underscores a shared commitment to addressing local needs. A perfect example of community in action is our Illuminating Hope fireworks show. Our partners at Kristonis Lindor Dalrymple have helped us raise over $95,000 through this event to fund our youth food programs. In addition, schools, churches, and civic groups regularly organize food drive events to support the food bank, further deepening community ties.
Our organization embodies the values of compassion and solidarity. We bring people together, not just to provide for immediate needs but to build a stronger, more connected community. Through our services and the collective effort of volunteers and supporters, IFCB continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many, illustrating the true power of community spirit. For that, we thank you.
