Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, with flexibility required during peak periods
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervises: Operations team (titles vary by structure)
FLSA Status: Exempt (salaried)
Pay Transparency/Hiring Range: $98,000 - 108,000, DOE
Benefits: Medical, Dental, PTO, and Holidays
Successful completion of a post-offer background check process (required before start date)

THE ROLE
This is a builder, systems and people role.
As Director of Operations, you will be the connective tissue between strategy and day-to-day execution. You will bring structure to complexity, clarity to change, and calm to fast-moving environments. This role is ideal for someone who can think three steps ahead, roll up their sleeves when needed, and lead others through growth with empathy and discipline.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Operations oversees the organization's operational food and facilities infrastructure, ensuring that people, processes, and systems are aligned to support the delivery of its mission. This role leads our building and warehouse operations and cross-functional workflows. The Director of Operations serves as a key strategic partner to the Executive Director and leadership team while managing changes for the operations team and volunteers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational food and warehouse operations and systems.
Design, implement, monitor, and evaluate to continuously improve operational systems and processes that support scale, efficiency, and accountability.
Oversee internal policies, procedures, and compliance practices related to facility and food operations.
Lead organizational planning related to department infrastructure, staffing models, and internal capacity.
Ensure operational decisions align with mission, values, and strategic priorities.
People & Change Management
Lead and support the Operations Team managers through periods of growth, change, and evolving priorities.
Oversee Operations Team’s functions, including performance management, employee relations, onboarding, and offboarding.
Partner with leadership to strengthen organizational culture, communication, and engagement.
Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on people challenges, conflict resolution, and team dynamics.
Leadership & Collaboration
Act as a core member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
Translate high-level strategy into clear operational plans with timelines, ownership, execution, accountability, and evaluation.
Facilitate and model cross-functional collaboration and remove barriers to effective teamwork.
Model collaborative leadership and strong communication across all levels of the organization.
Execution & Continuous Improvement
Drive projects from concept to completion, ensuring follow-through and results.
Use data and feedback to assess what’s working and what needs adjustment.
Balance long-term planning with real-time problem solving in a demanding environment.
Identify risks early and proactively implement solutions.
Other Duties
Serve as ambassador of the organization in the community as needed.
Lead special projects assigned by the Executive Director.
Perform other duties as needed to support organizational effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
7+ years of progressive experience in operations, administration, or organizational leadership
Non-profit experience strongly preferred.
Grocery or food distribution experience strongly preferred
At least 3 years in a people management role.

Proven experience leading organizational change and managing the human side of transformation.

Physical Requirements
All team members support events and our market operations. You must be able to lift to 50 pounds on a regular basis. This can be a physically rigorous position in a busy office and warehouse environment, and occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
